How to accept Visa Travelers Cheques

A step-by-step checklist for accepting travelers cheques.

Step. 1 Examine

  • Paper: Does it feel like currency?
  • Watermark: Is a watermark visible on the front side of the cheque when the cheque is lifted to the light?
  • Raised texture: Does the blue border feel raised?
  • Holographic thread: Does the vertical silver, metallic, shiny strip with the word ‘secure’ shine and change colour when the cheque is moved?

Step. 2 Watch

Ensure that the presenter countersigns the cheque in the lower left corner in front of you.

Step. 3 Compare

Ensure that the signature and counter-signature match. If the cheque is already counter-signed, ask the presenter to sign it again on the reverse side and ask for identification. Ensure the amount presented is consistent with your normal business transactions.
